P de Plickers

At our high school we try to promote active and participative methodologies which include ICT approaches such as the use of Plickers. This application is a tool which helps the teacher to have a quick and simple way of assesing students´ understanding. Providing for a fun and helpful way of seeing where students find themselves in the teaching-learning process. 

Plickers allows teachers to collect data without requiring students to use their mobile phones or papers, all they need is a card with a QR code which they  rotate to show their answer choice. Students stay engaged as they watch to see if their card has been scanned, and their answer displayed. This tool definitely promotes students participation and engagement in learning.

The photo below shows a typical Plickers activity we did with the 1 ESO class to review the use of to be/ have got and adjectives of description. It was the first time the students used it and they were clearly having a ball! We will most surely keep using Plickers in future activities.

En nuestro instituto intentamos promover el uso de metodologías activas y participativas que incluyen el uso de enfoques con nuevas tecnologías, como el uso de Plickers. Esta aplicación es una herramienta que ayuda a el/la profesor/a a comprobar de forma rápida y sencilla si los estudiantes están construyendo conocimiento y es una forma divertida de evaluar donde se encuentran los estudiantes en el proceso de aprendizaje.

Permite que los profesores recopilen información sin que los estudiantes tengan que usar teléfonos móviles o papel, todo lo que necesitan es una tarjeta con un código QR que van rotando para enseñar su respuesta. Los estudiantes están atentos a la actividad mientras ven si se ha escaneado su tarjeta y se muestra su respuesta. Esta herramienta promueve la participación y la implicación del alumnado en el aprendizaje. 

La fotografía muestra una actividad que realizamos con la clase de 1 de ESO para repasar el uso de los verbos to be/have got y los adjetivos de descripción. Fue la primera vez que los estudiantes usaron sus tarjetas y resultó todo un éxito que repetiremos en cada unidad didáctica.
