Book Day

Desde nuestro confinamiento hemos realizado diferentes actividades con nuestros estudiantes para celebrar el Día Internacional del Libro, que se realiza cada 23 de abril desde 1926. Fecha en la que en 1616 fallecía el dramaturgo y poeta inglés William Shakespeare. Por este motivo, esta fecha tan simbólica para la literatura universal fue la escogida por la Conferencia General de la UNESCO para rendir un homenaje mundial a la lectura, los autores y el libro, y con ello animarnos a descubrir el placer de la lectura.

Nuestro grupo de 1 A ha trabajado la poesía y la literatura con la lectura de varios poemas en inglés y la redacción de su propio poema con la temática de “I Never” (Yo nunca) en la que han escrito e ilustrado aquellas acciones que nunca realizan.

Otros grupos de alumnos han realizado Webquests (yincanas virtuales) sobre los libros de Harry Potter y The Hobbit. En este tipo de propuestas interactivas el profesorado plantea unos enigmas o cuestiones que los alumnos y alumnas tienen que resolver visitando y buscando la información o la resolución a los dilemas en diferentes páginas web que se les proponen.

Digital Tools: 2

Padlet is an online noticeboard, which means it can be used for making announcements, keeping notes and online brainstorming. It allows users to easily express their thoughts on a common topic and read what others have to say. It is essentially a virtual bulletin board in which collaborators can simultaneously create and organize posts of any content type.



In our "distance" teaching we have used Padlet with our students to post information on Elton John that they had previously and to share it with the rest of the students. After that, they had to pick one note from their classmates and translate it into Spanish.

We also used it with another group of students to post the outcome of their research about their carbon footprint.

They really loved using Padlet and thought it was very easy friendly.

We are highly encouraging our students to use digital tools in their learning at home while waiting to be able to come back together to our school life.

Mensaje del IES Sierra Morena

Nunca imaginamos que este virus se iba a expandir tan rápidamente y menos aun que se iban a cerrar las escuelas en toda España. Ante este reto tan grande de tener que estar confinados en nuestros hogares mientras continuamos con el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje a distancia, el equipo educativo del IES Sierra Morena ha preparado con mucho cariño un video para nuestro alumnado  con el deseo de animarles en estos días de incertidumbre y cambio. 

No one imagined the rapid spread of COVID-19 and the closure of all schools across Spain. Teachers at IES Sierra Morena are committed to making sure teaching and learning continue no matter how hard this challenge might be. 

Digital Tools: 1

Since our schools’ shutdown, teachers have had no other choice but to embrace distance learning as well as to find alternative ways to motivate students and keep track of their learning. We are diving into new digital tools to engage them and I thought we should be sharing the outcome of some of their work.

There are many online word cloud generators which enable us to create unique word cloud art. With this tool we produce images made of words which are very visual and can be used for different purposes. 

Our 3 ESO students have used the app to describe their favourite singer. In the activity they had to include adjectives to describe his/her appearance and personality, nouns to tell us about their hobbies, their most popular songs and any piece of information that might have seemed interesting to them. I made my own word cloud to show them as a model and they then created their own images.

Each student from our 1 ESO group created a word cloud from a list of words related to our topic of study: activities and routines.

I am really proud of my students. They always exceed my expectations whenever I pose a challenge to them.

Viaje a Úbeda

El 12 de marzo viajamos a Úbeda con nuestro elenco de actores y actrices para representar la obra de teatro “Sleepy Hollow” en el II Certamen de Teatro en habla inglesa Ciudad de Úbeda. Lamentablemente, no pudimos representarla porque el mismo día minutos antes del comienzo del certamen se decidió cancelarlo como medida preventiva ante la expansión del Coronavirus.  La cancelación nos pillo totalmente de sorpresa, no supimos leer entre líneas los mensajes que nos llegaban de la situación en otros países y nunca pensamos en como se iban a desencadenar los acontecimientos a partir de ese día.

Nos quedamos muy desilusionados, principalmente por parte de nuestro alumnado que estaba deseando poder representar la obra y demostrar a todos el resultado del esfuerzo de meses de práctica y ensayo. Totalmente decepcionados decidimos aprovechar el viaje y puesto que ya estábamos en Úbeda dedicamos la mañana a explorar sus calles y disfrutar de una agradable mañana con nuestros alumnos.

Fue el principio de los meses que nos aguardaban y del confinamiento que estamos viviendo ahora. Pero como se dice...
