Art: Character and fashion

In 4 ESO at IES Sierra Morena, we have been talking about "Character" and fashion in Art class. We talked about  how fashion and the way we dress ourselves changes depending on our age, gender, culture and personal style.

Our discussion focused on the question: "Do the clothes we wear represent our personality?"

The class was split, some said “yes” and some said “no.” For example, about 17 of the 23 students wore a black winter jacket, only about 6 had a colorful jacket. Is the winter jacket color a personal style choice? Or is it separate from their personal fashion?

We also discussed the topic of unisex clothing. Unisex clothing is clothing that was made for everyone to wear, no matter their gender. The class observed that many women these days wear “traditional men’s clothing” like pants, loose shirts, and sweatshirts. However, we see less men that wear “traditional women’s clothing” like skirts, dresses or sheer material. 

Examples of celebrities that break gender norm fashion are Harry Styles and Billie Eilish.

We also looked at some of the extremes of fashion. A great example is Lady Gaga and her “Meat dress.”

To finish the class we played a guessing game about “Urban Tribes.” To play the game, one student read the name of an urban tribe secretly. The class did not know the tribe, so the student had to make sentences (clues) about their tribe for the class to guess what it is!

And so, we practiced our English and learned some new urban tribes too!
